A NEW Indian restaurant has opened its doors to customers - taking over a historic Furness pub.

Mumbai Indian Cuisine has opened this week on 82 Duke Street, Askam, at the site of the former Taste of India and The Vulcan pub.

The eatery will offer classics such as jalfrezi, masala, south Indian garlic chips and Shish kebab.

The Duke Street building was only re-opened as The Vulcan in August last year under Harneet Singh Khaneja, who ran Askam Post Office. Along with previously being the Taste of India, it was once the Goldmine pub and in 2010 looked likely to be turned into flats.

Last year Harneet said it had been empty 'for quite a while' before he took it on.
