POLICE have warned residents about a scam winter fuel allowance text.
Cumbria Police asked residents to not click on a link supplied in a text message which states that the winter heating subsidies will be replaced and encourages those eligible to apply.
The text states: "We have decided to start paying living allowance to replace the winter heating subsidies that were canceled this year." 'Cancelled' is spelled with one l in the text.
It continues: "Applications are now open to eligible people, and the application channel will be closed on October 17, 2024.
"If you received the information, you are eligible to apply." The text then asks the recipient to update their information in the link, which would then allow the 'living allowance' to be released."
A spokesperson from the police said: "If you receive this message do NOT click on the link. The messages are fake and it is a scam."
