The M6 has reopened after a serious collision forced its closure for more than 12 hours.

Police Officers were initially called to the incident at 4:04pm on October 15 and remained on site until the early hours of Wednesday morning undergoing ‘collision investigation work’.

The accident occurred in the roadworks area between Kirkby Lonsdale and Shap on the northbound carriageway.

The air ambulance, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, Cumbria Police and local ambulance services all attended the scene.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: “Cumbria Police have completed collision investigation work at the scene.

“The M6 northbound has now been reopened between J36 and J39 - between Milton, Milnthorpe, Wickersgill and Oddendale.

“Any residual delays in the area have now cleared.”
