A woman had to be rescued from a dry river ghyll in Cumbria after she slipped in following her dog. 

Kirkby Stephen Mountain Rescue were called to the incident which occurred yesterday (October 14).

A spokesperson said: "Luckily for her, before we arrived another walker had stopped to help after hearing cries for help, this lady then provided further help by looking after the casualty's dog, keeping her calm whilst we treated the casualty.

"The casualty was administered pain relief, treated for her injuries and stretchered the short distance to the road to meet the NWAS ambulance.

"Many thanks to the walker who helped out with the casualty's dog and we wish our casualty a swift recovery from her injuries."
