MP Tim Farron is set to run the Langdale half marathon to aid a local heritage project.

He is running for Stricklandgate House Trust which has received an initial funding boost of £267,462 for its Stricklandgate House 4 Sustainable Heritage (SGH4SH) project, thanks to National Lottery players.

The project aims to 'conserve and celebrate the heritage of Stricklandgate House in Kendal, secure its future and enhance its value to the wider community.'

However, the Trust needs to raise £800,000 during the development phase to unlock future investment.

Success in this venture could bring an 'estimated investment of £4.5 millionto Kendal and the wider Westmorland and Furness area.

This would not only secure the future of the historic building but also attract more visitors to the town, boosting the local economy.

To help them in reaching this financial target, Mr Farron will be running the Langdale half marathon on behalf of the Trust.

The marathon, which covers the Great Langdale and Little Langdale valleys, is known as one of the UK's toughest half-marathons.

Mr Farron said: "I'm absolutely delighted to be taking on the stunning Langdale half marathon later this month to raise money for the Stricklandgate House Trust.

"For many years, Stricklandgate House has provided a fantastic home and space for many local community groups, voluntary organisations, and charities.

"I’m proud to be supporting them on their really exciting project to enhance and preserve this historic building for the future."

Stricklandgate House is a Grade II listed building, recognised for its Georgian architecture and original features.

Beyond its architectural value, through the ages, Stricklandgate House has had a significant impact on the town.

It is currently home to 18 charitable organisations, as well as home to the Kendal Civic Society's exhibition.

David Sykes, chairman of the SGH4SH project, said: "We are very grateful to Tim for taking on this challenge and raising much-needed funds towards our target.

"We have a steep hill to climb in raising £800,000 and Tim will face some steep fells on this half marathon.

"We will be cheering him on, as well as everyone else running the route.

"Please consider sponsoring Tim.

"Every little helps."

The building is in need of repair and the Trust aims to improve its 'accessibility and the environmental sustainability of Stricklandgate House, create a Community Hub, exhibition space, and enhance the current office and conference facilities.'

The National Lottery-supported project will enable further 'community consultation, research, architectural design work, and help progress plans through planning'.

It will also allow the Trust to co-design and pilot heritage and community activities and events in partnership with volunteers, local groups, and the wider community.
