A CHIPPY owner has pledged to do 'everything we can to turn it around' after the business was handed a new one-out-of-five food hygiene rating.

Seafarers, located on Rayrigg Road, Bowness, was given the rating by an officer from the Food Standards Agency on September 3.

Standards at the time of the inspection found hygienic food handling to be ‘generally satisfactory’, whilst the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building was considered to be ‘good’.

However, the inspector found there was ‘major improvement necessary’ for the management of food at the takeaway.

She said: “At the time of the review in September, I was off sick.

“Over the years we have been awarded five-star food hygiene ratings because I was focused on the business but I got sick at the last inspection.

“However we have done everything we can to turn everything around.

“I have sent my staff on health and hygiene courses. I’ve been working from 6am in the morning to make sure we do everything in the recommendations.”
