A SECTION of the A595 through Grizebeck village will close as work on the road improvement scheme begins.
United Utilities will divert a water main under the A595 next weekend (19-20 October) to prevent any delays to the overall scheme. The water company will excavate a trench across the full road width.
The A595 will be closed between The Community Hall at Grizebeck and Dove Ford Farm to through traffic from 7am on October 19 until 5pm the next day.
Story Contracting, on behalf of Westmorland and Furness Council, has carried out preliminary work including archaeological digs and site establishment. No archaeological finds have been made so the works can continue.
The signed diversionary route will be via the A5092, A590 and A595 through Greenodd, Ulverston and Askam in Furness.
Access will be maintained for emergency service vehicles. Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to pass with assistance from the site operatives during normal working hours.
A spokesperson from the Grizebeck team working for Westmorland and Furness Council said: "We have chosen to carry these works out over a weekend to minimise the impact on road users, taking account of school traffic, commuters, and goods vehicles as far as reasonably practicable."
