Laura Oldham, a 31-year-old doctor, tied the knot to Elliot Meakin, a 29-year-old paramedic.
The pair are both from the small town of Poynton in Stockport in South Manchester and used to work together as lifeguards.
“We were just friends at that point,” Laura said, “As we grew up, we just started spending more time together and had similar interests.”
The couple got engaged in Barbados when Elliot took Laura away to celebrate her 30th birthday.
“He proposed on the beach one evening before dinner,” Laura said, “I very much wasn't expecting it, I just stood and stared at him confused for a long time after he asked, and he had to prompt me to actually answer!”
Their wedding ceremony was held on Saturday September 7 in front of just over 80 guests in total.
“Neither of us have big families so it was mostly just our friends,” Laura said.
They hired a couple of tipis and chose to get married on the lake shore at Buttermere because of their shared love of the lakes.
Laura said they spend most of their free time in the Lakes and recognise Buttermere as one of the most picturesque places there.
The couple were staying at Buttermere Court Hotel for the weekend, where Laura got ready alongside her bridesmaids.
“Not quite sure how we got so lucky with the weather,’ Laura said, “It was probably the nicest weekend of the year.”
Their dog walked down the aisle wearing a matching suit to Elliot and a flower girl came before Laura, scattering petals and handing out cans of beer to the guests. Then Laura walked down the aisle with her dad.
Laura said: “One of our left friends was the officiant, which made the ceremony a lot more relaxed as neither of us particularly like being the centre of attention.
“We had speeches before food because Elliot wanted to get them over with, so he wasn't worrying.”
They hired a company called Chef in my Kitchen who put on a barbeque and found a singer who they had seen a few times in their local pub in Cheadle.
Laura said: “We knew he would be great, but it was better than expected with him playing outside with the incredible view of Buttermere behind him.
“Because it was such nice weather everyone was dancing outside the tipi by the lake which is where we had our first dance.”
One of the most memorable moments was when Elliot’s brother-in- law, Dave, made a makeshift spanner out of three pieces of wood to open a keg of beer.
Laura also shared the magical walk back along the lake from the tipis to Buttermere village in the dark.
The newly-weds are heading on a mini honeymoon to Munich for Oktoberfest but plan to have a proper honeymoon in Patagonia with lots of hiking and stunning scenery.
Mr and Mrs Meakin would like to thank their best friend and officiant, Nathan, Patrick, who built the wedding arch, their photographer Tiree Dawson for the incredible photos, and Jordan Phillips the singer, who specifically learnt ‘Times like these’ to play for the first dance.
