A Cumbrian choir has secured a grant to help fund two upcoming events.
Kendal Choral Society has received a £900 grant from the Westmorland Arts Trust and Cumbria Community Foundation.
The funds will be used to support a 'Come and Sing!' workshop on October 26 and a Christmas concert on December 14, both to be held at St George’s Church, Kendal.
The workshop will raise money for the charity Manna House.
It will feature a programme including Alexander L’Estrange’s Songs of a Rainbow Nation, a medley from Bernstein’s West Side Story, Morten Lauridsen’s Nocturne Sure on this Shining Night, and Ola Gjeilo’s Sunrise Mass.
Duncan Lloyd, musical director said: "Kendal Choral Society is the oldest in Cumbria and one of the oldest in the country.
"It is a very friendly and welcoming non-audition choir but which aims high and expects much of its members.
"We are looking forward to welcoming local singers for an enjoyable afternoon of singing on October 26 when we will also be using our new bespoke staging for the first time, purchased thanks to a grant from Kendal Town Council."
The choir aims to provide accessible, high-quality music-making and listening opportunities to its community.
The choir rehearses every Thursday evening at Ghyllside Primary School, and performs a minimum of two concerts a year.
Mr Lloyd said: "Anyone interested in joining us or attending either of our two upcoming events is guaranteed a warm reception and should visit the choir’s website for further information: www.kendalchoral.org.uk."
