The council is set to approve funds for a discounted swimming scheme in Barrow and Dalton during half term after receiving ‘extremely positive’ feedback from previous roll outs of the initiative.
Members of the Furness Locality Board are set to allocate £29,608 from the priorities funding so the 10p swimming and food scheme can take place in October and February half term at Barrow and Dalton leisure centres.
The funds enable children to swim and receive a hot meal or a packed lunch afterwards for 10p.
A report prepared for the upcoming locality board meeting says: “The feedback has been extremely positive with full uptake on places offered.
“People that would not normally access Leisure Centres have taken advantage of the offer. It can be demonstrated there has been an increase in social connections, physical activity and healthy eating.”
Councillors are recommended to approve the funding when they meet on October 9 at Barrow Town Hall.
