Cumbria Tourism has launched a 'business tracker' survey to understand the issues tourism operators face through the autumn and winter seasons.

The survey aims to gather real-time data amid ongoing economic challenges.

Cumbria Tourism, in partnership with Cumbrian accountancy firm Lamont Pridmore, has introduced this in-depth survey to better understand the challenges affecting the region's tourism industry.

This data will not only guide destination marketing for the county, but will also strengthen Cumbria's case with national decision-makers and influential industry bodies.

Gill Haigh, managing director of Cumbria Tourism, said: "Tourism businesses are confronting multiple challenges in 2024, from rising costs and inflation to recruitment and transport issues.

"The survey also captures forward bookings for the upcoming winter season, helping us assess the full scope of the situation.

"While we know many businesses are feeling the strain, this research allows us to gain deeper insight into individual operators’ experiences, equipping us with robust evidence to present to key decision-makers."

Graham Lamont, chief executive of Lamont Pridmore, added: "As accountants, understanding and interpreting financial data is in our blood.

"Accessing the right information is essential to assess business performance and plan for future challenges and opportunities.

"We are delighted to continue our support of Cumbria Tourism’s Business Performance Survey, which provides Government, policy makers, and business owners with the quantitative and qualitative information they need to make effective decisions."

Tourism-related businesses of all shapes and sizes are being urged to complete the survey: www.cumbriatourism.org/resources/research/.
