A Burneside theatre group is set to stage its 50th pantomime.
Burneside Amateur Theatrical Society (BATS) will perform Aladdin at the Bryce Institute in January, 2025.
This production marks a full-circle moment for the group, as Aladdin was also their first pantomime back in January, 1975.
BATS was established to raise funds for the Bryce Institute, which was facing closure due to poor facilities and low bookings.
At that time, the Bryce Institute had only a makeshift stage, which had to be built and dismantled for each concert and play.
This reduced the seating capacity of the main hall, affecting income.
The group’s first performance of Aladdin was a success, played to full houses every night, and helped keep the Bryce open.
By 1979, the Bryce was no longer in danger of closing, thanks to the funds raised by BATS.
Now, 50 years later, BATS continues to present a pantomime every January, along with three other shows throughout the year.
These performances not only provide entertainment for the community but also income for the upkeep of the Bryce Institute.
BATS are excited about their upcoming 50th pantomime and are determined to make it the 'most spectacular yet'.
Tickets are already on sale and can be booked by calling the Box Office on 07792 777213.
