The shining stars of education in Cumbria will be recognised in this year’s Golden Apple Awards.

Now a firm fixture in the county’s calendar, the awards are presented by Newsquest Cumbria – publishers of the News & Star, The Mail, The Cumberland News, The Westmorland Gazette, The Whitehaven News and the Times & Star – in association with headline sponsor the University of Cumbria.
This year’s ceremony takes place at the Castle Green Hotel, Kendal, on Thursday, October 10 and you can follow the evening on social media using #GAA24.
The awards are a chance to celebrate excellence in education and learning and recognise the talent, resilience and achievements of the education sector and its inspiring people.

As well as educators, it champions those striving hard in difficult circumstances to achieve their dreams.

The awards build on the popularity and success of those of recent years and provide important recognition for unsung heroes from all corners of Cumbria’s education community. Among the recipients will be terrific teachers, superb students, amazing apprentices and incredible initiatives.
As a leading light in higher education, the University of Cumbria is the ideal partner for the Golden Apples.

The university specialises in meeting the demands of an evolving workforce and emerging markets and is known for its practice-based focus.
Professor Rob Trimble, deputy vice chancellor at the University of Cumbria, said: “We are delighted to be continuing our role as headline supporter of the Golden Apple Awards. These awards rightly celebrate the contributions and impact of so many, whilst recognising the life-changing and transformative power of education.
“It is part of our mission to spearhead, with others, the development of higher-level skills across the region and across a range of sectors, including education. We do this not only through our development of accessible and inclusive programmes, but also through our vision for, and investment in, our sites that include proposals for new campuses in Barrow and Carlisle and the creation of the Cumbria School of Medicine in partnership with Imperial College London.
“The Golden Apple Awards illustrate how privileged we who work within education, learning and training are. We are proud to help honour these ceaseless efforts.”
Joy Yates, regional editor for Newsquest Cumbria, said: “The Golden Apple Awards present an opportunity to recognise and reward all that is excellent in education and learning in Cumbria. The finalists are all worthy winners in their own right and should be super-proud to have been nominated and shortlisted. A huge thank you to the University of Cumbria for partnering with us at Newsquest to deliver the event this year, and to all our sponsors who enable these awards to take place to honour our finalists and winners.”
