A LAKE DISTRICT society has produced their annual calendar hoping to raise funds for a cause close to the hearts of it's members.

The Wainwright Society’s ever-popular calendar, featuring photographs taken by members of the beautiful Lake District and other areas associated with Alfred Wainwright, has been launched.

The Society has produced a calendar for many years, raising funds for charitable bodies the late Alfred Wainwright (‘AW’) would have wished to be associated with. The Society has raised over £190,000 for good causes. Last year the 2024 calendar raised over £9,000 for the Mountain Rescue Teams in Cumbria.

This year the Society is supporting the Lake District Foundation to raise funds for Fix the Fells whose mission is to protect the  spectacular Lakeland fells from erosion by repairing and maintaining upland paths.

Ian Nelson, who produced the 2025 Calendar, said: “The Lake District is a UNESCO World Heritage site – a place worth protecting. But erosion is causing ugly scars and environmental damage in the fragile mountains. Fix the Fells tackles this erosion problem by repairing and maintaining 344 upland paths, covering 410 miles (661 km), helping to keep the Lake District a special place for future generations.”

In 2022, Fix The Fells was the winner of the Park Protector Award from the Campaign for National Parks.

Fix the Fells relies on voluntary contributions to carry out all of its valuable and essential work. All sale profits from the calendar  will be donated to the Fix the Fells partnership. The Society is working with the Lake District Foundation with the aim of doubling its contribution through “Big Give – The Christmas Challenge”.

The calendar, priced at £12 and can be purchased from Bookends bookshop in Keswick, and from the Society’s online shop:
