A nursery has been left 'disappointed' after Ofsted inspectors rated it as 'inadequate'.

Stramongate Nursery on Blackhall Road in Kendal received the rating for the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management.

This showed a decline in conditions from the previous inspection which branded the nursery as 'good'.

A trustee of the nursery said: "We are of course very disappointed with the outcome of the recent Ofsted inspection, both for the families who place their confidence in Stramongate Nursery and the team who work hard to provide a warm, stimulating environment for the children they care for.

"Following the inspection on August 12, urgent action has been taken.

"A more effective management structure has been put in place who have taken the lead in addressing the points raised in the report, and in actioning real change and improvement throughout the setting."

The report by Ofsted outlined that, due to a lack of adequate supervision, a safeguarding incident - in which a child went missing during a trip to the park - was not appropriately reported.

The curriculum was also said to not be good enough, due to a lack of ambition in its nature.

While parents spoken to as part of the inspection shared that their children were happy at the nursery, they admitted that details about the curriculum were not well communicated.

The trustee added: "We have communicated these changes in more detail to the families of Stramongate Nursery, and will continue to keep them up to date with developments as we strive towards greater improvement.

"The team are demonstrating resilience during this difficult time, and are fully dedicated to delivering a high standard of childcare and early years education to the local community."
