A NEW project to help provide support and access to affordable technology for people on low incomes is operating in Ulverston.

Ulverphone, in collaboration with Ulverston-based charity Community Solutions, is based in the Hive Hub in Ulverston Market and came from an idea by Chris Kneale.

"I am enjoying working with Community Solutions. I have been at the Hive Hub for about 3 months," he said.

"This is my ideal job. I meet people and talk to them about what Community Solutions provides for the local community.

"I am currently working by myself on the project and if I can make someone smile then this is what makes me happy and is a possible sign I have done my job correctly."

Mr Kneale said the overall response from the community has been 'very positive'.

"We do need some donations that are in working order as I am currently low on stock. Any devices that are donated I securely erase them with my paid software I own so no data can be recovered. I have tested the software and it's very good," he said.

"I intend to work on the project. It is not a 6-month idea. I am focused on a longer duration until I am not able to work any further."

Ulverphone is at the Hive on Thursdays and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm.

"Anyone is welcome to visit and say hello. The hive is a great space for the community and we have different groups using the space frequently," he said.

"The motto I have created is 'Donate, Volunteer, Get Involved'."
