A DENTAL practice has been praised after an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Susan Spence and Associates in Ulverston was found to have met the required regulations across all criteria.

The practice, at 28 Cavendish Street, is run by D. Gregory Ltd and received a visit from inspectors on August 8.

On-site assessment found the practice had met all the requirements for safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness and leadership.

A dental practice has existed on the site for over 100 years and was purchased by Duncan and Tracey Gregory in 2022.

Systems to manage risks, recruitment procedures reflecting current legislation, and infection control in line with published guidance were all in place.

The report said patients were treated with dignity and respect and their care and treatment was found to be in line with current guidance.

The practice provides private dental care and treatment for adults and children, giving patients access to care, support and treatment.

The CQC said there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

At the time of assessment, the dental team included four dentists, one dental hygienist, one dental therapist, four qualified dental nurses, two trainee dental nurses, a receptionist and the business manager.

Patient feedback from a total of 57 people provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.

Comments included: 'Prompt service and very professional” as well as “friendly and welcoming, very considerate.”

Patients were happy with the cleanliness of the practice, felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale and had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed.

They were involved in decisions about their care, given clear information surrounding treatment and associated costs as well as any prescribed medications.

Patients told inspectors that they were supported in maintaining their oral health and provided with appropriate information and resources.

Feedback from patients was shared with the dental team, which the practice said would be reviewed and action taken where suggestions had been made.
