A FARMER has been left with thousands of pounds worth of damage after a car hit his stone wall.
A large stretch of wall has been knocked down at the A684 near Hawrkigg Lane in New Hutton village.
Farm owner David Knowles says this was caused by a car that would have been travelling toward Sedbergh.
The damaged wall is located a mile away from his farm - Craggs Farm.
Mr Knowles said: "We have some very good neighbours that are quite close to it and they did not hear. Nobody has heard or seen anything.
"Luckily the sheep stayed in the field."

He said several car parts had been recovered and he has reported it to Cumbria Police.
Officers confirmed that they received a report on September 14 of a collision that had led to a dry stone wall being damaged.
It happened overnight on Friday, September 13 to 14.
A spokesperson for the force has asked anyone with information to contact police on 101.
Mr Knowles said he has put a temporary fence in the field but thousands will have to be spent to fix the stone wall.
"It will be about £2,000 - that is three days work," he said.
"When somebody does something and does not own up to it - that is the really annoying part. There are people somewhere who will know who it is."
He said this was not the first time a similar incident happened.
"We have not had one for about five years, but prior to that, we had one or two every year," said Mr Knowles.
"I blame the road really and there should be a crash barrier possibly because it is a bad corner."
