One of the biggest events of its kind is making a return to the Lake District and will see hundreds of people swim and run against a stunning backdrop.
Swimrun is an adventure sport which combines trail running and open water swimming.
There will be an event in the Lake District on Sunday September 22, starting at Brown Howe in Coniston.
Swimrun Coniston takes place across three different distances, including the 12.7km, 21.1km and 45km.
The race will pass Braithwaite Hall, Rydal Water and Wray before reaching the HQ and finish line at Dale Lodge Hotel in Grasmere.
It will be one of the biggest Swimrun events in the UK, featuring the longest and arguably ‘most spectacular’ courses in Great Britain.
Gary Pavitt, from Gritty Rascals Events Lt, resurrected the race after previous organiser Breca stopped it due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said: “I have friends who participated in the past and knew it was widely viewed as one of the best Swimrun races in the UK.”
Gary bought it and has been working to bring the race back and offer something that is ‘close to unique’ in the UK.
Apart from being the only Ultra distance Swimrun race in Great Britain, the full course provides the only UK gateway to qualifying for the World Championships.
With over 240 people signed up, the event has attracted entrants from Canada, USA, South Africa as well as Europe and across the UK.
The races have a minimum age of 18 but entrants range between people in their late teens to pensioners in their mid-70s.
Swimrun Coniston is true to the original race and takes a linear format, competitors are taken miles away and race back over the hills and through the lakes and trails.
Gary said everyone can have a go, from first timers to British athletes.
“There is no changing, people swim in their trainers and run in their wetsuits," he said.
There will be full water safety measures in place as well as biosecurity stations so racers can move from one body of water to another without putting the environment at risk.
