CUMBRIAN personal trainer Emma Grunnill had a busy two weeks coming third in her class in back-to-back European and World competitions.

Emma competed in the under 82kg Official Strongman (OSG) Europe's Strongest in York at the Barbican on Saturday 17 August to Sunday 18, and then the next weekend (24-25) she was in the Natural Strongman World's Strongest in Galway, Ireland.

For the OSG competition, Emma had to perform a 210kg deadlift, a 100kg each hand timber farmers for 28 metres, a 100kg sandbag loaded over 46 inches, a 50kg dumbbell press and a loading medley 12 metres into a skip: an 80kg tyre, an 80kg keg and a 100kg sandbag.

Emma's placement in the OSG is impressive as she is a clean athlete in an untested competition.

In the Natural Worlds, which is tested, Emma faced a log ladder (60,70,80,90kg), 210kg timber frame 20 metres, power stairs (three stairs loading 120,140 and 160kg), husafell carry 110kg for one minute, 190kg kratos deadlift, bag throw over four metres, a 210kg yoke into an 80kg axle press and keg loading to 46 inch platform (70, 80, 90 and 100kg).

When she came third in the OSG she bagged herself $1,000 (£750).

In terms of doing the two competitions back to back, Emma said: "I am very, very in-tune with my body. I train so much anyway that I am conditioned to it."

But she said she wouldn't do two major competitions this close together again.

Emma is a personal trainer, who offers outdoor sessions in the Lakes. She now has her own private gym in Kendal.

She only started training for competitions in November 2022 but came third in the 2023 Natural Strong Woman championships just a year later when she was 34.
