A MAN has admitted killing a Cumbrian after stabbing him.

Michael Jenkins, 24, from Workington, died following the incident in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, last year.

20-year-old Alfie Whelan had initially been charged with murder but prosecutors accepted his guilty plea to the reduced charge of culpable homicide on the basis of provocation.

Whelan will be sentenced next month and is being remanded in custody.

A court heard a 'violent altercation' took place and Mr Jenkins was stabbed 13 times with a dagger.

Efforts were made by emergency services to save Mr Jenkins' life but he died at the scene.

Mr Jenkins' family said: "Life wasn't always kind to you Mike, but you showed the world a lot of kindness. We all love you."

Sentencing has been adjourned until October 15.
