PLANS to convert a grade II listed building in Ulverston into several apartments are set to be given the go-ahead by the council.

Members of South Lakeland local area planning committee for Westmorland and Furness Council are recommended to approve plans from A and A Property (NW) Limited to convert the Belle Vue building on Princes Street in Ulverston, into seven apartments.

According to plans, the building will consist of five one-bedroom apartments and two two-bedroom apartments under the proposals.

Planning documents state: “Given the scale, nature and location of the building, the property is no longer considered to be suitable for commercial use and the intention is therefore to convert the property into residential apartments.

“The conversion to a single dwelling was considered, however Local Estate Agents have advised that there is no market demand for a property of this size and nature within the town centre, further due to the limited private curtilage.”

The scheme originally proposed converting the Belle Vue into six apartments and constructing two new builds, however this scheme was amended following discussions with planning officers, and comments from Ulverston Town Council amongst others.

According to planning documents the building was formerly an office building and was built in the 19th century.

Members of the planning committee will consider the application on September 12 at Kendal Town Hall.
