SOUTH Lakes Police have urged boat owners to remain vigilant after officers arrested a man over the alleged theft of a Suzuki outboard engine.

The engine was said to have been stolen from Windermere overnight.

Officers from another force area arrested the suspect as part of Operation Headway.

He will be interviewed later today.

Last weekend a further 20 Selecta DNA forensic marking kits were provided to boat and outboard engine owners on Windermere free of charge last weekend.

It comes as South Lakes Police continue to work in co-operation with the Lake District National Park Rangers to prevent ongoing crime.

The kits are funded by the Police Fire and Crime Commissioner.

Police have advised people to remain vigilant to suspicious and unusual activity around boats and boat storage areas.

Members of the public are asked to report by calling 101 or 999 if a crime is in progress.
