This year’s Westmorland County Show is set to be bigger and better than ever.
The event gets to host prestigious national competitions and this year it will stage the Beef Shorthorn National Show on Wednesday, September 11, along with the Young Farmers’ Club’s Five Nations stock judging competition.
The show will host a two-day pig show this year with the addition of a kune kune section, also on the Wednesday.
As always, bumper sheep entries are expected and organisers are thrilled to be hosting a qualifier for the Teeswater Sheep Breeders’ Association’s 75th anniversary champion of champions competition.
An exceptional equine section will see classes across both days and numerous qualifiers, including for the London International and Royal International Horse Shows.
This year’s show will also welcome the return of the poultry section.
The rest of the showground will be brimming with stalls, with many existing and new traders lining up to offer a unique two days of shopping.
Other attractions are the All Weights Wrestling World Championship that will take place on Thursday, September 12.
The Rural Crafts and Countryside Area is the part of the show that celebrates traditional rural crafts.
You can find some beautifully unique handmade crafts for your home and garden, whilst discovering the skills involved in making bee skeps, spinning, growing damsons and managing your own orchard.
While you’re there, you can even have a go at a huge variety of rural crafts, including spinning and lace making.
The Learning for Life Marquee, an established part of Westmorland County Show, proves more and more popular every year. It is a chance for schools local to South Cumbria and North Lancashire to showcase the brilliant work they do throughout the term.
Packed with interactive displays, arts, environmental projects, sciences, crafts, IT projects and more, this marquee is definitely the most colourful on all the showground.
As a result of schools becoming involved with the Learning for Life Marquee, children are introduced to and participate in their local county show from a young age, gaining fantastic experience of the countryside and agriculture in an environment like no other.
