The police are hoping that the 'message is clear' after a teenager was arrested in south Cumbria for carrying a knife.
The 16-year-old male was arrested in Kendal town centre following a stop-and-search by Community Beat Officers on Saturday, August 31.
The knife in question was a 'locking type', with the police highlighting how these are 'always prohibited'.
The South Lakes Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) is now hoping that the example will discourage others from doing the same.
A spokesperson commented: "Sadly, some young people think that if you carry a knife, it will provide protection, but statistics show that if you carry a knife or weapon you are more likely to end up being hurt.
"You might think that you'll be more respected for carrying a weapon, but all it really does is put you, your friends and family in danger.
"The resulting criminal record could stop you gaining entry into your chosen college or university, or getting a job, and you could also go to prison.
"The message is clear - do not carry a knife."
