A Wiltshire-based dad of four will run the length of England to raise money for a number of charities including the Brathay Trust.

Frank Wainwright, founder of Field Marketing and the Brand Experience Awards, will run over 30 miles a day for 62 consecutive days.

Starting on July 1, he will embark on a 2,000-mile journey, covering every cathedral city, starting in Newcastle and taking a clockwise route around the country.

His route will include five national trails, six national parks, and several national landscapes.

Adding extra style to the challenge, he plans to war a Viking helmet around York, fuelling up with fish and chips in Great Yarmouth, and visit Buckingham Palace after finishing his day in London.

The challenge is not just for personal achievement.

The aim of Frank’s Big TOE (Tour of England) is to promote the connection between urban life and outdoor wellbeing as part of youth development, inspiring the next generation.

He will be raising funds for several charities, including the Brathay Trust, which motivates young people to make life-changing decisions.

Mr Wainwright has a history of raising funds for charity, having previously completed the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon and Howard's Way Walk.

He said: "Being in lockdown in 2020 gave me a new appreciation for England – I travelled around it whenever I could, running and making new friends, finding inspiration every step of the way.

"Throughout my past experiences, I have always championed youth and the great outdoors.

"I’m very positive about the next generation - given the right opportunities, they are destined to be better than us.

"The money raised and the message received will be used to hopefully build a lasting legacy – for young people growing up to make the best of the country that we live in, and to make it even better."

Despite the extreme nature of this challenge, the 54-year-old only took up running seriously a few years ago.

He completed his first ultramarathon in 2018, followed by a 125km volcano ascent.

Since then, he has finished over 100 further ultras, including races across extreme terrains.

Mr Wainwright is not just a long-distance runner; he has also achieved notable victories.

He was the quickest in the 2022 Mongol 100, which comprised four marathons across four days on a frozen lake, at temperatures reaching -30°c in Mongolia.

He also won the senior prize for the Lake Tahoe triple in California and Nevada.
