ROADS in Kendal are currently gridlocked due to diverted traffic, roadworks and temporary traffic lights.
This comes as a result of a fatal road traffic accident on the M6 motorway at Junction 37 earlier this morning.
Traffic is currently being turned around at the rear of the queue to join the Junction 37 Slip Road to head onto the M6 south or Kendal A6.
The northbound carriageway is likely to remain closed for some time whilst police and partners continue their work at the scene of the incident, which occurred at around 11am.

It has been reported there are currently 1.2-miles of traffic being held between the road traffic collision and junction 37.
Motorists are being advised to plan alternative routes if possible.
One lane is closed due to water main work on Aynam Road Southbound from A6 / A65 / Kent Street to Nether Street.
There are also temporary traffic signals due to gas main work on A6 Milnthorpe Road both ways at Collin Road.
