MORE than one third of the A-Level grades at Kirkbie Kendal school were A or A* with the headteacher praising an 'outstanding' set of results.
Kirkbie Kendal, on Lound Road, joined schools across the nation as staff handed this year's cohort of students their A-Level results, which determine where they will go and what they will do next.
Headteacher Mark Harris said: "This is another year of outstanding academic results for our Sixth Form students. We are incredibly proud of our students and their academic achievements over their time in our Sixth Form.
"They are moving on to exciting futures at some of the best universities at home and abroad, high level apprenticeship opportunities and some incredible gap year plans. I am delighted that this year we have three students who have achieved scholarships to study at Oxford, study medicine and study abroad and thank the staff in school who supported students throughout this process.
"It has been a delight to see this cohort grow and flourish, making the most of the wider opportunities in school, performing on stage here or in our shows at the Brewery Arts Centre, completing their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, organising charity events in school or supporting younger students.
"In particular I want to thank the Head Students and their Senior Student Leadership team who have contributed so much to the school. They now become part of the Kirkbie Kendal School Alumni and we look forward to hearing of their further success in the future.”
Two students who got outstanding grades were Eddie Hibbins (2A*s, an A and B) and Zachary Corbett who got 4A*s. Eddie has got into Lancaster University and Zachary is off to Oxford.
"I'm really relieved, I checked my UCAS this morning and I saw that I'd got into Lancaster but I didn't know that I would have got 2A*s - it's just an extra boost," Eddie said.
Zachary added: "I'm feeling so relieved I was just so stressed the whole summer I've been stressing about it. I was sick for one of my exams one of my physics exams I got food poisoning or something like that - my whole family was ill from it."
