THE blue plaque in tribute to the memory of a well-loved cat is finally in place, nearly two months after her statue was unveiled.

The plaque, which is on a stone next to the statue in Millans Park, Ambleside, reads: "LIFE of RILEY (2011-2024): A much loved feral cat whom lived here in this garden.

"RILEY - loved ratting and pigeon fancier. This statue commemorates her life of freedom and joy she brought into our lives and will never be forgotten.

"With grateful thanks to all who gave to this artwork and to her creator internationally renowned Lakes artist and sculptor David Cemmick."

Ian Rollins and Laszlo Papp raised £4,175 through GoFundMe to commission the statue which has sat for the public to see on the garden wall of 1 Millans Park since midday on Saturday, June 21.

Since then, Mr Rollins wanted her blue plaque to sit next to the statue, which it now does.

"It is bringing in friends old and new and much admired," Mr Rollins said. "She will always be a part of us."

Riley has received comparisons to Max the Miracle Dog from Keswick - as both Lake District animals received admiration from thousands of people across the world.
