A COASTGUARD has issued a warning following the death of a teenage boy in Windermere.

Cumbria Police was contacted shortly after 5pm on Wednesday, July 24 with a report that a 16-year-old boy had got 'into difficulty in the water' near Brockhole.

Furness Coastguard were tasked along with Arnside Coastguard, Maryport Coastguard, Duddon Inshore Rescue, Windermere Lake Wardens, Windermere Lake Rangers and other emergency services to support Cumbria Police with the incident.

Following the incident, Furness Coastguard advised everyone to be aware of their surroundings, the depth of water people are in and to be vigilant over other people around them.

A spokesperson for the coastguard added: "Remember, just because the air temperature is warm it doesn’t mean the water is too, take time to become accustomed to the water temperature to help prevent cold water shock.

"If in danger on the coast or one of the four navigable lakes, Windermere, Coniston, Ullswater or Derwentwater then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
