VISITORS and locals in the Lake District were in for their own little piece of Hollywood this weekend, as filming was carried out for a major new blockbuster movie.

Film crews were spotted in Keswick over the weekend, with some telling members of the public they were working on the fourth film in the Bridget Jones series- Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy

Bridget Jones: Mad about the boy was confirmed earlier this year and is set for release in early 2025.

Over the weekend, lead actress Renee Zellweger (Bridget Jones) and 12 years a slave actor Chiwetel Ejiofor ( who plays a PE teacher and Bridget's rumoured love interest) were spotted filming a school trip scene for the new movie in Keswick, according to reports in the national media, with Renee even having a classic 'Bridget Jones' moment with a trip over the bridge.

Filming was taking place near Kitchen Bay on Derwentwater with around a dozen caravans as well as a large gazebo in a field by the lake as well as some catering vans all holding a presence in the area.

Passers by said there were also several vehicles parked along the route by the lake with large floodlights stationed around the area.

People in the area said that  there were more floodlights stationed on the hill and several dirt tracks made by vehicles in a criss-cross fashion in the field, suggesting they had been racing through for the film.

Dozens of walkers took in the scene with interest on a busy weekend at the popular destination point.

Tourist Daniel Chipperfield, from Bristol, was walking the popular route with his dog Indy when he saw the scene.

He said: “It was quite a sight seeing the large operation in that idyllic spot. It caught a lot of people’s interest. It looked they may have been filming some sort of chase or off-road driving scenes in the field by the lake.

"I am assuming the Derwentwater Lake will feature too because otherwise they would have filmed somewhere else and it is such a stunning location. It will be exciting to see if you can spot any of the locations when the film comes out.”
