EMERGENCY teams from Cumbria have been in attendance at a 'major incident' in Southport earlier today.

Armed police arrested a man and seized a knife after being called to the “major incident” at a property on Hart Street, in Southport, north of Liverpool, at about 11.50am today, July 29.

North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) said it had so far treated eight patients with stab injuries, who have been taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Aintree University Hospital and Southport and Formby hospital.

A team from Langwathby near Penrith were called to the incident delivering advance emergency care to one patient, before accompanying them to hospital via road.

In a statement on social media, the Great North Air Ambulance Service said: "Earlier today, our Langwathby-based critical care team responded to reports of a major incident in Southport, Merseyside.

"Our doctor-led crew worked alongside North West Air Ambulance, Midlands Air Ambulance Charity and a number of other emergency services.

"We delivered advanced emergency care to one patient before accompanying them to hospital by road."
