A PREMIER convenience store in Windermere has swung open its doors after a major renovation.

The shop is run by 22-year-old Marcus Parkinson, who had only just finished his business degree. The doors opened to customers on Thursday, July 25.

Marcus praised his first customers in a message: "Thank you so much to everyone who came and visited us today, we are so overwhelmed with all the support you've shown us."

Earlier, Marcus told this publication that he had put 'hundreds of thousands of pounds' into the shop.

He took over the former Heathwaite Store on Park Road from Panjalingam Karunakumaran, known as Mr PK. Mr PK is still involved in the business although has mostly left it in Marcus's hands.

In the shop will be baked goods from The Apple Pie Café on Rydal Road in Ambleside. Marcus also put old photos of the shopkeepers who had looked after the store before he joined the business earlier this year.

Marcus put an American drinks section and a beer cave into his shop.

Marcus added: "It has been completely gutted inside and outside - it will look brand new. There will be stuff like a coffee machine, new fridges and freezers going in."
