A family has successfully raised over £5,000 through a charity walk in Kirkby Lonsdale.
Mary and Mike Crackles from Burrow organised the event named Walk for Hope.
The aim of the walk, which took place on July 2, was to help raise awareness about a rare brain disease named Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD).
Mr Crackles, who was diagnosed with the disease in November 2023, and his wife, have since been driving initiatives alongside their family to increase public understanding of CBD.
A rare neurological condition, CBD gradually results in problems related to balance, speech, vision, swallowing, and mobility.
Misdiagnosis often delays the detection of this condition, as it is commonly confused with Parkinson's, stroke, and depression.
As of now, no treatment or cure exists for CBD.
Seeing her husband combat CBD, Ms Crackles found the perfect opportunity to help when she came across a suggestion from the PSPA charity.
The charity advocated for hosting walks to create awareness about the disease.
Accepting the challenge, the couple decided to organise Walk for Hope to enlighten their community about Mike's diagnosis, spread awareness about CBD, and show their strength of resolve during challenging times.
Ms Crackles said: "We'd never heard of CBD before Mike was diagnosed with the condition last year.
"None of our family and friends had either."
Their awareness campaign saw a big turnout of more than 85 friends and family members, including their Olympian daughter, Fiona Crackles.
Participants took on a 5km circular route starting from the family's residence during the evening.
Post-walk, everyone indulged in a delicious sausage BBQ and family farm ice cream from the Milking Parlour.
Even under somewhat chilly weather, the day turned out beautifully.
The sun stayed out for those participating in the walk, which included four children and ten dogs.
Those keen on contributing to their cause can donate to Mary and Mike's Walk for Hope through their JustGiving page.
Ms Crackles said: "It was a really lovely evening.
"As well as raising awareness and funds, it was great to see Mike take part and enjoy himself.
"We’re grateful to everyone who joined us on the walk and for their generosity in terms of donations to PSPA."
