Professional baristas from coffee shops across the region have been competing in the first-ever Farrer's Barista Championships.
The Lake District-based coffee roastery, John Farrer & Co., Kendal, launched the competition in April this year.
More than 20 individuals have participated in more than six heats held between April 9 and July 4.
These competitors have been pitted against each other, vying for a spot in the final showdown on October 2.
Each of the challengers underwent rigorous testing of their Barista skills and understanding during the heats.
The competitors were subjected to a two-hour challenge where they were required to set up workstations.
They were also tasked with creating a signature coffee-based non-alcoholic beverage of their choice.
Professional baristas from across the region, including Farrer’s barista trainer Michaela Hudson, judged them in the competition.
Six finalists have successfully made it through these rounds of challenges.
They will be going head-to-head for the Barista Champion 2024 title in the finals at Farrer’s dedicated Barista Training Suite in Kendal.
The six finalists are Charlie Edgar from Lowther Castle & Gardens in Newtown, Penrith, Luke Klein from Boaters Bar in Bowness, Nina Hibberd from Bay View Garden Centre in Carnforth, James Greenwood from Freshers Café in Ambleside, Emma Cartwright from 2 Sisters Café in Plumgarths, and Katie Jackson from Brew Brothers in Kendal.
The finals will take place with Beverage Standards Association trainers John Skinner and Martyn Herriott adjudicating alongside Farrer’s general manager Rob Baines, head roaster Che Oxenham and trainer Michaela Hudson.
The overall champion will receive the winner's trophy for a year, a Sanremo Zoe Two Group Compact Espresso Coffee Machine worth £5,000 for their workplace, the opportunity to create their own coffee blend, a three-day City & Guilds Level 2 VRQ Course, a hamper with Farrer’s coffees, and more.
The runner-up will take home a certificate, a one-day BSA Level 1 Course, plus an assorted hamper featuring a variety of Farrer’s coffee and tea-related goods.
The remaining finalists will also receive a selection of Farrer's goods.
Rob Baines, Farrer’s general manager, said: "We’re delighted to be able to announce the finalists for our first-ever Barista Championship.
"It’s been a closely fought competition so far with some serious coffee brewing skills being showcased.
"Now all that remains is for us to see who will claim the overall title on October 2 - good luck to each of our finalists.’’
