A SECTION of a busy Cumbrian road has been closed due to an 'unexpected' surface dressing issue.
There are multiple reports and images of cars and commercial vehicles with stains from a black substance after travelling on the A6 between Levens and Milnthorpe last night. Westmorland and Furness Council has now closed the road at Heversham.
A spokesperson from the council said: "The A6 at Heversham is closed due to an issue with the material laid by our surface dressing contractor, Kiely Bros, as a part of recent works on this route.
“The surfacing material has unexpectedly not cured due to technical factors causing damage to vehicles that have driven through it.
“As an emergency measure, our highways service enforced a full road closure on the impacted stretch of road as soon as we were made aware. The site has now been taken over by the contractor who anticipates to resolve the issue and reopen the route later this afternoon.
“On behalf Kiely Bros, we apologise for the damage and inconvenience that has been caused for our road users."
“Those impacted can direct claims to cumbria@kielybros.co.uk.”
