The annual Jonny ‘Mougs’ Mason football tournament has aimed to raise funds for the Cumbrian suicide prevention charity, Every Life Matters.
Played at Jubilee playing fields in Kendal, the tournament, held on June 29, was dedicated to Jonny Mason who took his life.
It's an important means of raising awareness for suicide prevention while celebrating Jonny's life.
Matt Brooks, the organiser of the event, said: "We lost Jonny two years ago in terrible circumstances so we wanted to do something not only to remember him and celebrate his life, but to also raise awareness and provide some much needed funds for our local suicide prevention and support charity - Every Life Matters."
According to Mr Brooks, the football tournament was an appropriate tribute as Jonny loved his football.
He expressed gratitude towards the many residents who participated and donated to the cause, resulting in a successful event.
After the matches, the trophy presentation took place at the IBIS Club, where teams gathered to celebrate the event and remember Jonny.
Mr Brooks also mentioned that despite the sore legs from the over 35s tournament, there's widespread interest in continuing the event next year.
The money raised from the tournament is going to Every Life Matters.
The charity not only works to prevent suicides through active training and campaigns but also extends bereavement support to those who've lost a loved one to suicide.
The charity's main goal is to eliminate the stigma surrounding suicide via education and sparking meaningful discussions, thereby enabling individuals to seek help.
The official fundraising page has reached over £1500 and is still receiving donations actively.
Emily Lishman, community fundraising coordinator at Every Life Matters, said: "The fact this tournament takes place every year is testament to the memory of Jonny and the passion of those who attend every year have for preventing deaths by suicide.
"We are so grateful to have such steadfast supporters who put on such a fun day out, what an amazing day to bring people together through the power of football!"
It is clear that the Jonny ‘Mougs’ Mason football tournament has not only commemorated a love for football but has also rallied a community for a crucial cause, suicide prevention.
