Cumberland and Westmorland Association is in the full 'throws' of its summer season with wrestlers from Kendal Wrestling Club showing off skills practised over the winter season on new mats.
17-year-old Myles Stainton of Dent kicked off the season in style by winning the boys' Under-18 Years World Championship over the May bank holiday weekend.
Myles has been wrestling since the tender age of five. Former Chairman Chris Bland of C&W Wrestling said: "Myles has attended the club for twelve years now and has blossomed into a very good wrestler."
The Kendal club meets weekly at Burneside Cricket Club from October to March for training with coaches Connie Hodgson, Joe Robson and other assistants.
Members range from seven years of age up to seniors with both male and female competitors.
Before the winter season began, the club bought new mats which have proved very beneficial for members.
The club applied to the Westmorland and Furness Council and the club was successful in receiving a grant of £1466.
Chris added: "Our members have found the new mats much better and the club has very much appreciated the grant from Westmorland and Furness Council."
