A care company with branches in Kendal and Ulverston has been recognised for the support it provides to people with spinal cord injuries.

Alcedo Care Group and its team covering the South Lakes has become a trusted partner of Spinal Injuries Association (SIA), recognised as providing outstanding care in the home for those of all ages with spinal injuries.

SIA partners with carefully selected organisations and provides support and knowledge to those who have suffered a spinal cord injury.

Only those that meet its standards receive trusted partner status.

Currently working with around 10 spinal injury clients, Alcedo’s nursing team offers adjustable care based on the distinct requirements of each individual.

Capable of managing even the most challenging scenarios, they can provide needs ranging from daily one-hour visits to respite or round-the-clock care.

The team offers support covering personal care, companionship, help with day-to-day tasks, transport and assistance with rehabilitation appointments, physiotherapy, and specific needs such as bowel and bladder care.

Alison Hayward, partnership manager from SIA, said: "The purpose of the trusted partner scheme is to connect our members with organisations that can help them live a fulfilled life after injury.

"We know that it is often difficult for our members to know who to trust with their care requirements and are therefore delighted to welcome Alcedo Care Group on board as a trusted care partner to help with medical care in the home."

Andy Boardman, managing director at Alcedo Care Group, added: "Our team is hugely experienced in looking after those with spinal cord injuries in their own homes, delivering bespoke care packages according to differing individual needs and requirements.

"We are delighted to be recognised in this way by Spinal Injuries Association and look forward to extending our help and support further across the spinal injuries community."

Alcedo Care Group and its branches across the North West of England and North Wales can now display the SIA’s trusted partner logo.

They are also able to accept recommendations from their community and wider contacts.

Recent evaluations have been positive, as recent feedback from a family in the Lakes revealed: "It has been 12 years and six care agencies later, since my 39-year-old son fell off his bike and sustained a high level spinal injury.

"Alcedo took over his care package on March 1, 2024.

"We as a family cannot believe the difference Alcedo has already made to our lives.

"For the first time, we have a manager who is hands-on, compassionate, understanding, intelligent and responds immediately to every message and query from either the care team or my son.

"We had begun to feel that there wasn’t a decent and kind care provider out there.

"Alcedo has worked so hard to get everything right. I am grateful for all they have done/are doing to provide quality care for my son and to restore our faith in good care provision.”

Rated one of the top 20 large home care groups for four years running, Alcedo Care Group is on track to meet its target of owning and operating 30 branches across the North of England and Wales by the end of 2025.
