The Ghyll Singers, Ulverston's own ladies' choir, are preparing to serenade their hometown.

The June 28 event, scheduled for 7.30pm at Ulverston Methodist Church in Neville Street, will see musical director Deborah Milledge leading the choir while Margaret Harrison provides piano accompaniment.

Concert-goers can expect a varied repertoire spanning multiple genres, from traditional folk songs such as 'Dance to Your Daddy' and 'I have a Bonnet Trimmed with Blue', to classical masterpieces like Mendelssohn’s 'Lift Thine Eyes'.

Additionally, they will perform arrangements from the musical South Pacific and choral renditions of pop classics 'You Raise Me Up' and 'Close to You'.

Choir member Doreen Lynn will demonstrate her skills as a trained concert pianist as she plays the Meditation from Massenet’s 'Thaïs'.

The event will see refreshments and a raffle.

Admission is available at the door for £5, with proceeds going towards choir funds.

Established in 1941 by the Afternoon Townswomen’s Guild, the Ghyll Singers, consisting of around 30 women, sing in two, three and four-part harmony.

The singers meet each Tuesday evening during term time to rehearse, and perform in concert venues and residential homes in Furness and South Lakeland.

More about them can be found on www.ghyllsingers.org or their Facebook page.
