Cumbria is well renowned for its stunning natural landscapes and the wildlife that comes with it, making it a haven for photographers.

For Nature Photography Day (June 15) here are some of the best spots across the county to capture the beautiful scenery.

1. Lake District National Park

Derwentwater: This lake offers picturesque views, especially at sunrise and sunset, with the surrounding fells reflected in the water.

Buttermere: Known for its tranquil beauty and dramatic landscapes, including Fleetwith Pike and Haystacks.

Tarn Hows: A serene spot with a small lake surrounded by woodlands, perfect for capturing reflections and varied lighting.

Catbells: A popular hiking spot providing panoramic views of Derwentwater and the surrounding fells.

2. Scafell Pike

As the highest peak in England, it offers breathtaking views over the Lake District and is ideal for capturing expansive landscapes.

3. Ullswater

This lake is known for its serene beauty, with opportunities to photograph sweeping lake vistas, rolling hills, and quaint villages like Glenridding.

4. Helvellyn

This mountain offers stunning views and dramatic landscapes, particularly from Striding Edge and Red Tarn.

5. Wastwater

Known for its dramatic scenery, with the deepest lake in England framed by towering peaks like Scafell Pike and Great Gable.

6. Ennerdale Water

One of the more remote and less visited lakes, offering unspoiled natural beauty and a sense of wilderness.

7. Watchtree Nature Reserve

The popular attraction close to Carlisle offers wildflower meadows, woodland and wetland habitats which are protected for the benefit of local wildlife.

8. Grizedale Forest

Offers a mix of woodland, trails, and sculptures, with opportunities to capture both nature and art.

9. Duddon Valley

Known for its rugged beauty and tranquil river, ideal for capturing rural landscapes and traditional stone bridges.

10. Hadrian’s Wall

While primarily a historical site, the surrounding landscapes provide stunning backdrops, particularly at sunrise or sunset.

11. Borrowdale

A valley offering dramatic scenery with crags, wooded areas, and the meandering River Derwent.

12. Muncaster Castle Gardens

While the castle is a man-made structure, the gardens provide a beautiful setting with a variety of plants and views over the Eskdale valley.
