A MAN has been sentenced after being caught driving with metabolites of a Class A drug.

Sidney Oram, of Greenside in Kendal, was driving his Fiat Punto on Milnthorpe Road on December 27 last year when he was stopped by police.

Road traffic officers asked Oram to conduct a DrugWipe test at the roadside as they had reason to believe the defendant had been driving illegally.

The results revealed the defendant had been driving with Benzoylecgonine – the main metabolite of cocaine in his blood.

Court documentation showed Oram gave a lowest reading of 66 ug/L. The legal ‘zero tolerance’ limit is 50 ug/L.

Magistrates at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court on June 6 fined Oram £120 and banned him from driving for an obligatory disqualification period of 12 months.

He was also ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a £48 surcharge.
