A HIKER with cramp on Scafell Pike struggled to make his way down the hill during cold conditions in the evening.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team received a call from Cumbria Police on May 30 about a party of seven walkers close to the summit of Scafell Pike. One of them was suffering from cramp and struggling to make progress, and the others were becoming cold because they were staying still and did not have additional layers.
The incident log states: "The walker was encouraged to hydrate and refuel and then attempt to make progress downhill. This was successful and the party was then able to make some progress downhill."
The mountain rescue team monitored the progress of the party through 'regular PhoneFinds' which uses GPS data to pinpoint a person's location.
Six Wasdale MRT members met the party in case further assistance was needed but, they were informed that the walker had recovered well and made his way to the valley floor.
The conditions were described as 'clear, windy and cold at height' and the call was not closed until 9.53pm.
