Kendal Pride has unveiled its diverse event schedule, boasting everything from yoga to live music, with activities primed for all demographics.

Billed as 'pride done differently', the festivities for Kendal Pride's 2024 run present a colourful repertoire featuring child-friendly activities, film screenings, and an array of attractions.

Jamie Hooper, chair of the organising group, said: “We’re delighted to share the programme for Kendal Pride 2024 and we hope that everyone, no matter who they are or how they identify, can find something for them.

“We believe in ‘doing pride differently’ and we think the programme reflects that, making the most of our beautiful outdoor spaces and offering an engaging and artistic range of things to experience.

“We hope faces old and new will join us for what’s sure to be a joy-filled and celebratory weekend.”

The event promises a vibrant, varied entertainment line-up, including, for the very first time, live music on an outdoor stage during the afternoon and early evening.

The festivities launch on Friday, June 14, with a collection of short outdoor and adventure films, curated by Kendal Mountain Festival at the Brewery Arts Centre.

The night also offers three £2 late-night performances, including a queer variety show at Ye Olde Fleece Inn, a karaoke micro-party hosted by drag queen Patty Dale at About Time Espresso Bar, and live music at 98 Highgate, featuring the queer indie band, Tote.

Opening on Saturday, the Pride Village migrates to its new locale at Abbot Hall.

It presents eco-art activities for families, a diverse spread of food vendors, stalls, and entertainment from 1pm, headlined by the Kendal-born band, Bossyking.

In addition, the inaugural Kendal Pride Proud Pooches Dog Show, in partnership with Animal Rescue Cumbria, welcomes all dogs, with categories including Best Bitch, Best Six Legs and Handsomest Boy from 2.30pm.

The first-ever Festi-Ball, showcasing a fusion of glamorous ballroom and northern festival antics from 5pm-7pm, will cap off Saturday's events.

Festi-Ball hosts performances from students from Kendal College and a performance from the ceilidh band, The Weirdstrings.

The Big Pride Party on Saturday night at Bowness Bay Brewery's venue invites visitors to celebrate alongside Britain’s Got Talent's Ruby Sinclair and drag queens Nova Gina and Andi Blewitt.

The weekend's schedule continues with a variety of activities, from free fitness sessions and voguing workshops to a guided exhibition of the gender-defying photographic series by artist Claude Cahun at Abbot Hall.

Helen Stalker, associate curator for Lakeland Arts said: "At Abbot Hall, we are creating spaces for people to come together, find inspiration and engage with art.

"We are delighted to host Kendal Pride Village this year and support the LGBTQIA+ and local community in celebrating everyone who makes the town what it is.

“During Kendal Pride, there will be a programme of fun activities and events for people of all ages and Abbot Hall will be showcasing the incredible work of gender defiant artist Claude Cahun.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone to Abbot Hall for this vibrant community celebration.”
