It may not have snowed recently in Kendal but that has not stopped one club from hitting the slopes.

Kendal was home to some of the UK's best freestyler skiers and snowboarders on Saturday, May 11, as one of the biggest dry slope freestyle ski and snowboarding competitions on the UK circuit took place.

K-Jam 2024 was attended by 50 athletes from across the country with some of the top young athletes from Snowsport England's (SSE) Park and Pipe Squad involved, with four of them Kendal Snowsport Club (KSC) members.

Kendal's very own Fergus Allen, Josh Wright, Dan Lowden and Alice Sanderson competed against the best and came away with plenty of glory to their name.

Fergus, Josh and Dan earned Gold, Silver and Bronze in the Under-18 category respectively, being crowned overall winners for the competition in the process, whilst Alice took Silver in her category.

One of the event organisers and club members, Karen Wright said: "The SSE talent scout was also in attendance watching the upcoming riders and he spotted a few KSC members he will be inviting to join the squad, the pathway to Team GB.

"So KSC could be producing another Olympian in future years, following Emma Lonsdale, who competed in Sochi, and Jay Hebblethwaite, who took fourth in Big Air at the World University Games held in the USA in 2023."

The event was well supported with Tim Farron popping in to watch, along with the ex-Mayor Julia Dunlop and new Mayor, Jonathan Cornthwaite, who presented the winners medals.

Jill Spurr from Medlocks Electrical Distributors, the local sponsor of the event, was also one of the many faces in the crowd. 

"A great day of friendly competition was followed by an end of season party for the club, which now closes until September so its volunteers can have a well earned rest.

"We have over 1,250 members now and the club is still completely run by volunteers, but we love doing things free for the community."
