THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised in a Mayor's charity dinner.
The Mayor of Kendal, Councillor Julia Dunlop, organised her charity dinner on Friday, April 12 at the Carus Green Golf Club.
Diners enjoyed three courses, a balloon auction and a performance from the young people of The Knotted Project, a local theatre group.
The event raised over £3,500 for the Mayor’s charities – Waste into Wellbeing and Wave Forward.
Cllr Dunlop said: "I’m very grateful to all the supporters for their generosity. These are great causes and every penny helps them deliver change to real people’s lives. I have to give a special mention to the Furness Building Society, who handed over a cheque for £1,000 on the night. It was fabulous."
Ben Guilfoyle, from Kendal-based mental health charity Wave Forward, said: "It is brilliant to be supported by this event. Together we can help turn the tide for struggling young people in our town."
Claire Wickham from Waste into Wellbeing explained how many tons of food waste will be saved by their ongoing work, from their new hub on Highgate: "We hope our new home for the Peoples’ Café, at the Eddington, will be a beacon in these difficult times, and we couldn’t do it without ongoing support like this."
