A new candidate has been announced for a by-election in South Cumbria.
The Trade Union and Socialist Coalition has announced Martin Powell-Davies as its candidate for the upcoming by-election for a councillor in Grange and Cartmel.
Residents in the Grange and Cartmel ward will be asked to choose a new councillor to represent the area at Westmorland and Furness Council on May 2 after former councillor Peter Endsor stepped down due to family ill health.
A spokesperson for the TUSC said: “As a councillor Martin says that he will speak up loudly for local people especially for action on housing, public services and all the local environment issues that affect the Grange and Cartmel area, and as a councillor he will vigorously oppose cuts to local services and amenities.”
The TUSC say they are a coalition of like-minded people who are intent on reversing ‘damaging austerity policies’.
Mr Powell-Davies will compete against Liberal Democrat candidate Mike Hull and the Conservative candidate Alastair Hibbert. No other candidates have been announced yet.
The election will take place on May 2.
