A recent study reveals that the North West region of the UK stands third in terms of smokers who successfully quit the habit.
According to data analysed by online vape store GoSmokeFree, 1,164 out of every 100,000 smokers in the region succeeded in quitting smoking from April to September 2023.
The data, which was sourced from the NHS Stop Smoking Service in England, placed the South East region at the top of the list with 1,226 successful quitters per 100,000.
The North East region trailed behind in the second position with 1,195 successful quitters per 100,000. Within the North West region, Sefton emerged as the most successful area with around 2,552 out of every 100,000 smokers successful in quitting the habit.
However, 1,843 smokers confessed to being unable to quit out of the 4,916 who had set a quit date. The data analysis, however, does not consider the local authorities that did not follow up on their results. Consequently, the accuracy of results could be questionable.
The study is part of a national effort to curb smoking rates across the various regions of the UK. Vape retailers like GoSmokeFree are actively promoting smoking cessation aids and services.
This report comes in light of an overarching campaign led by the NHS to encourage smokers to quit. The campaign strives to reduce the strain that smoking-related diseases place on national health resources.
It also aims to improve the overall public health by urging individuals to relinquish their addiction to smoking.
The study also highlights the ongoing efforts and resources dedicated by the NHS and independent entities in helping people quit smoking.
