A WALKER was taken to hospital in Preston after taking a serious fall down a Lake District fell suffering head and back injuries.
Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team were called out to Fleetwith Edge yesterday, March 31 (Easter Sunday) at 3:31pm following reports a walker had taken a fall through Low Raven Crag in Buttermere whilst walking down Fleetwith Edge.
The team were also assisted by emergency services such as the Great North Air ambulance assisting with taking the casualty to hospital.
A spokesman for Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team said: "A walker descending Fleetwith Edge took a tumbling fall through Low Raven Crag, continuing down the steep grassy bank beyond, and suffering head and back injuries.
"They were initially treated by passing walkers, a team member already in the area, and the crew from Helimed58 (the Great North Air Ambulance Service), and then the rest of the team. They were then stretchered to the Air Ambulance, which had managed to land in a field about 300m away, and flown to Preston.
"A big thank you to the groups who stopped to help before we arrived."
