A Grasmere bookshop has been named as one of the UK's quirkiest to spend your World Book Day tokens in this March.
Sam Read Booksellers, nestled in the idyllic Lake District, provides book lovers with a unique experience steeped in literary history.
The shop is situated in a beautiful building made from traditional Lakeland stone, attracting both tourists and a local crowd.
Established more than a century ago, Sam Read is renowned for promoting local authors and nature-themed books.
This dedication led to it being shortlisted for the Independent Bookshop of the Year award in 2022.
The bookshop, located in Broadgate House, LA22 9SY, is also a cultural touchstone for those visiting homes of famous authors including Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter.
One of the booksellers even revealed that esteemed writer E.M. Forster used this bookshop to send his letters home.
With such a storied past and unique charm, it’s hardly surprising that Sam Read Booksellers found its place on the shortlist of quirkiest bookshops compiled by Cottages Inn Northumberland.
Besides Grasmere’s gem, the list also features notable bookshops from across the UK, including Forum Books, Scrivener's, Five Leaves, Richard Booth's, P&G Wells, and Mr B's Emporium.
